about
BEHIND is a sonic departure from her recent album DEAD RECKONING, but not in message. Reinhert continues to lead us on a journey of self-identity in the time of fractured artistry.
Reinhert draws inspiration from artists such as Joni Mitchell, Sara Bareilles, and John Mayer, but also from the struggles of trying to own all the parts of who she is with authenticity and vulnerability. Written before the pandemic, but produced by Happy Camper Studios in Nashville and remotely recorded in Reinhert’s bedroom studio, the track is a letter to her younger self.
I know you won’t believe me
If I tell you where you’ll go
For there’s no way you can imagine
How a journey ebbs and flows
The picket fence and ever after
Simply aren’t your cup of tea
Instead you’ll give up all you have
To find all that you need
‘Cause the barriers you think you’ll find
Are only rules still undefined
That over time will change to be
The things you leave
Behind, Behind, Behind
The things you leave
I know it’s hard to choose a path
That doesn’t look like those you know
And if you pick the road less traveled
I can’t promise you the show
No happy ever after
Ever comes without a price
But the tag is always worth the cost
Of sevens on the dice
‘Cause the barriers you think you’ll find
Are only rules that you’ll define
And over time they’ll change to be
The things you leave
Behind, Behind, Behind
The things you leave
The things you leave
On the doorsteps where your heart gets broken
On the porch swing where you’ll leave your grief
On the streets you’ll walk in sleepless anger
On the walls you’ll scream out your relief - relief
That the barriers you think you’ll find
Are only rules left undefined
That over time will change to be
The things you leave
Behind, Behind, Behind
The things you leave Behind
