Long after you were gone
My dad told me a tale
Of something you had done
To deal with every day

You started with four walls
A bottom and a lid
Squared them up, closed the top
And then you hid

Each and every worry that you’d write down and put away
Until the week would finally end – you’d face your fears and troubled days

Open up you worry box
And read each care aloud
And if you hadn’t reconciled
You’d place it back inside to drown
But the rest you burned

You shared your thoughts with many
So they built their own
And every Friday they’d sit down
At five alone

Pour a dry martini
And open up their box
Take out the first care
And see if it unlocked

Any feelings of regret or fear they hadn’t quite put down
Or anxiety about the things they couldn’t turn around

They opened up their worry box
And read each care aloud
And if they hadn’t reconciled
They’d place it back inside to drown

It’s my grandfather’s worry club
